Old Testament Overview

The Old Testament the story of Gods plan for mankind, laid out before the foundation of the world. To most, the 39 books of the Old Testament seem to be a random selection of stories. However, there is only a single story line throughout the Old and New Testament. That story line is, Gods record of His creation, the good and the bad. This record starts with God showing us how He started at creation with His perfect plan for fellowship with His creation, mankind, who was created to have full unconditional, face to face , fellowship with their creator, in the world He prepared for them. God placed his Holy present there along with the tree of life as a place of fellowship with Adam and Eve. This place was called the Garden of Eden.  The Old Testament shows how only in this perfect relationship can a man or woman, be fully complete.

Because God is from everlasting to everlasting, God uses the story line to give mankind a glimpse into times past and times to come, while also giving a complete account of His fulfilling his covenant with Abraham and David to bless the whole world through the Messiah, Jesus Christ. The Old Testament is the record of how this was to be fulfilled.

To help you understand the Old Testament, this Study will attempt to give you the “Big Picture” of Gods Plan. As you read and study the individual stories then you will realize the bigger purpose behind the story. Seeing the big picture will give you a “Frame Work” of knowledge that will be a foundation for further study and understanding.
